What is the
MOBILE ARTS SCHOOL
THE STORY :
The nonprofit organization Arts Alliance for Humanity reached out to groups of people in Los Angeles to talk about the importance of the arts during a 2014 public forum. This forum was held at the Downtown Central Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library, Members of the LA community shared the microphone with a panel of arts educators, public health workers, representatives from countrywide arts training programs, and faculty from LAUSD public/charter schools. The key topics targeted the meaning of CREATIVE EXPRESSION and the NEED for the ARTS in our schools and communities. This team of people laid the foundation for a citywide program located in Los Angeles. They created this program to specifically engage and connect diverse individuals with vastly unique backgrounds through a NEW concept called the MOBILE ARTS SCHOOLl.
THE OUTCOME :
The FREE ARTS classes will be taught through the various branches of the LA Public Library system
( Downtown LA, Santa Monica, East LA,
Little Tokyo, Pasadena, Hollywood, Chinatown, Silver Lake, West LA, South LA).
Interactive classes, lectures, and discussions will respond to the needs of each particular local community while creating a foundation of education and empowerment through the arts.
The Santa Monica Playhouse will serve as
the central hub for the citywide arts classes. Classes begin January 2016.
The Mobile Arts School Classes:
12-Week Session A - January - March, 2016
12-Week Session B - April - June, 2016
After-School Acting Class for Teens
Theater games/ Monologues/ Scenes/ Working with an ensemble/
Engaging one's imagination/ Building self-confidence and communication skills.
Creative Writing
Short story/ Poetry/ Playwriting/ Giving voice to the imagination.
Storytelling for Seniors
Sharing life experience/ Speaking and writing personal history
and perspective/ Creating cultural dialogue.
Music Appreciation
Enjoyable and informative music listening and appreciation,
from Classical music/ to Jazz/ to the History of Hip hop.
Visual Art for All Ages
Experimenting in the various mediums of Painting/
Drawing/ Collage/ and Graphic Art.
Dance
Exploring expression through Movement, from
Modern/ Jazz/ and Ballet/ to Hip Hop/ and Regional Dance.
Creating a Dialogue for Homelessness
Using Storytelling/ Acting/ and Expression to share and interpret,
and create understanding and compassion for anyone affected by Homelessness.
The Power of Comedy
Using the tools of Improv/ Sketch Comedy/ Stand-up, and any
Written form of Comedy to enlighten, heal, and entertain.
Yoga Classes for All Ages
Building Health through Stretching/ Strengthening/ and Breathing exercises/
Stress reduction/ and Mental focus.
Culinary Arts
Exploring the endless world of Health and creativity with food,
from Basic Nutrition/ to Vegan and Raw foods/ Nutrition for Healing/
and the artistry of food from around the world.
Youth Health Watch
A targeted program to educate young people on creating individual health,
and empowering them to, in turn, teach their families and communities.
